Barcelona, Spain

April 2021

After a long long traveling hiatus, the world (at least Europe) was starting to open up a bit this spring and we could not not use the opportunity to escape to warm spring-like Barcelona for a week. Apart for a mandatory test everything was quite easy. We both had been to Barcelona several times before, so it was not about the touristing around but meeting friends, long walks, food and the weather. And I mean, what's not to love about this city?!

We went a bit more all out than we usually do (as we usually stay in hostels) and booked a room with a private terrace at H1 Cubik hotel near the Gothic quarter.

The terrace was amazing..

Not even gonna start about this beautiful rooftop!! And as restaurants still closed early, this rooftop bar did not hurt either!

The weather was in 20's, first days were proper beach weather!

Views from park Güell

And lots of seafood!

An amazing restaurant: Vinitus!

Obviously paella

Streets were still vibrant and alive, but touristy locations were quite empty

Walked up to the mountains. Bunkers el Carmel has and will be one of my favourite locations in Barca.

As there were many people up there for sunset, police came and asked people to wear masks, also at some point calmly said to start walking down. Everything was calm.

Another example, after restaurants closed many bars still sold takeaway and people were chilling in parks with the drinks. We were in one of such parks when it started to get crowded. Some policemen were observing the situation and at some point workers came and announced the park must be vacated as they'll start cleaning the pavement, and that they did! Actually clever!

Traditional vacation-like breakfasts

Won't be the last time, Barcelona, see you soon!

July 2024.  Took a train (and a bus, thanks to Renfe) from Valladolid to San Sebastian! I have not truly explored north of Spain, ever, so about time to rectify the situation.
