Netherlands: The Hague, Delft, Rotterdam

Attended my second Special Commission in October 2023. Due to this spent 8 days in lovely Netherlands.

As the worktrip also included a weekend, got to visit nearby towns on Saturday and Sunday. Delft is as close to the Hague, that it is possible to take a regular city tram and it ends up in another city. To Rotterdam there are several trains that enable to travel there quickly as well.

Skyview Pier and the beach

Local Ministry of Justice

Hague has so many lovely homey restaurants, small bars and cosy eateries to choose from, that it was a joy to eat out in the evenings (except Mondays, that was difficult, as many places are closed and the ones open are full).

For example, Cafe de Oude Mol

Our workplace for a week aka The Peace Palace, also home to the International Court of Justice

Shabu Shabu all you can eat sushi restaurant!

O'Caseys Irish Pub

Went to the theatre to watch a musical performance. The preview was all nicely in English, yet most of the show and the songs were still in Dutch. A lot of guessing games.

Excellent Latin restaurant La Tabla!

The King's working palace (Noordeinde Paleis). The King is in if the flag is raised.

Shopping streets in the city are connected by these passages.

Well, now it really was almost Halloween!

Don't need to go into the art museum to see The Girl with the Pearl Earring!

Off to Delft!

Delft is a lovely university town next to The Hague. It is more affordable, so a lot of people commute from there to the Hague to work. It's a vibrant town with history and culture, but also a lot of vintage stores, cafeterias and a vibe of old and new.

Oude Kerk (the old church)

Oude Delft Canal

Charcoal restaurant

First degustated all the delicious cheese, then bought some souvenirs for home!

Meet Miffy, also known as "nijntje" meaning "the little bunny", a Dutch book character.

Delft Windmill de Roos

Markt square with Delft City Hall and the Nieuwe Kerk (the new church)

And finally, Rotterdam!

Rotterdam is the second-largest and a major port city in the Netherlands. It's also a fun place to go on a daytrip!

Grote of Sint-Laurenskerk (considered to be one of the only medieval buildings in Rotterdam).

Markthal - a foodie joint with over 100 food stalls and little bars, that is also covered with gorgeous artworks.

The Cube Houses (Kijk-Kubus). Cool, abstract spaces tilted at a 45-degree angle. It's also possible to stay the night through Airbnb!

Old Harbor (Oude Haven)

Witte Huis (the White House), it was constructed in 1897 and was Europe’s first skyscraper (43 meters high).

Witte de Withstraat full of bars, restaurants of different regions and street art on every corner. Has a bit of a Williamsburg vibe!

The weather was a bit unexpected, so we spent some time exploring the food scene.

Bazar!

Depot! A museum storage depot with around 150 000 art objects, but the building itself is cool to look at. It's a giant mirror reflecting part of the city.

The weird Santa Claus statue, called also as the Buttplug Gnome, as in whatever it is, it's holding..

Bye now, Netherlands!

Jordan vol 2: Wadi Rum, Aqaba, Al Karak, Dead Sea

From Petra we drove a couple hours towards the Wadi Rum desert, headed first to the Wadi Rum village to register ourselves, then left our car at the designated area at the beginning of the desert and met our host who drove us into the desert in his truck.

Pinkpop vol 2, Megaland, NL

Second time at Pinkpop festival (second year in a row, in fact) and still impressed! The weather was a bit more eventful this year, as last year was a complete heatwave. This year, we got heavy rain on the first day, perfect mild, sunny weather on the second day, and back to the heat on the third day.
