Cyprus

January 2022

Escaping from the cold. Working remotely and exploring on weekends for a couple of weeks.

First up Larnaca. We had booked a hotel on the coast, a bit out of Larnaca centre and as it had closed down for renovations while it was off season, we were upgraded to a beautiful 5-star hotel next to it. Could not complain!

Bus timetables are often not easily findable online and google maps does not detect them often as well, yet the schedules are actually very ok and you'll find a way to wherever you go. We flew to Paphos and as there was no direct bus that time, took a bus ti Limassol and then to Larnaca then.

Alexander's restaurant in town centre. Loved the food, the drinks, the atmosphere and the service!

Wandered into a bar to hear these local musicians and also celebrate the bosses birthday with cake and shots.

Rented a car and drove to Ayia Napa. They drive in the left, so the car's front window was spot on clean all the time, as I was using it way too often before finding the turn signals. Also, mostly wanted to enter from the passenger's side. Other than that we were good!

Ayia Napa was a bit of a ghost town in January, but a lot of beautiful nature and a lovely Italian restaurant with lots of good food. They even invited us to a special Scandinavian fish-dinner.

Cape Greco National Forest Park - crystal clear water, large open fields, mountains and cliffs! Beautiful! A lot to explore. It's the easiest by car, as it is possible to drive around, stop wherever and go for walks and small hikes.

Nicosia and a drive through central Cyprus back to the sunny coast. It started snowing in the mountains and made to an interesting drive!

No-man's-land aka the Home Cafe in the UN buffer zone between Southern and Northern Cyprus.

Hello snow!

And back to the coast. Limassol, Paphos and surroundings.

Apart from the mountains, Cyprus was lovely and warm in January - at daytime at least. Nights got a bit chilly and rooms got cold, as they are not too big on heating.

Kourion Archeological site. Nice daytrip from Limassol. It consists of ruins from Hellenistic, Roman and early Christian era ruins, while offering lovely views of the Mediterranean Sea.

Delicacies of a local pub in Limassol.

Tombs of the Kings. The ancient burial site of important politicians and magistrates who lived in the capital of Cyprus during the Ptolemaic period.

We flew back from Paphos and on the last morning the waves were enormous. We had brunch at a cafe directly at the beach enjoying the sunshine and the waves almost coming in from the windows.

Cheers Cyprus! See you another time!

Jordan vol 2: Wadi Rum, Aqaba, Al Karak, Dead Sea

From Petra we drove a couple hours towards the Wadi Rum desert, headed first to the Wadi Rum village to register ourselves, then left our car at the designated area at the beginning of the desert and met our host who drove us into the desert in his truck.

Pinkpop vol 2, Megaland, NL

Second time at Pinkpop festival (second year in a row, in fact) and still impressed! The weather was a bit more eventful this year, as last year was a complete heatwave. This year, we got heavy rain on the first day, perfect mild, sunny weather on the second day, and back to the heat on the third day.
