Paphos, Cyprus

January 2024

We flew to Cyprus to spend a couple days there and travel on to Jordan then. This trip was essentially planned a few years ago, but the flight to Jordan was cancelled then. Considering what is happening in the world today, it almost would have been cancelled again.

When you live in Estonia, Ryanair is your best friend if you like to travel within a decent price range.  Flights to Jordan would cost typically around 400-700 EUR, yet we paid around 100 EUR for a route Tallinn-Paphos-Amman-Milan (Milan, because we were headed to a work trip in Europe after the vacation).

Anyhow, we have traveled in Cyprus before (http://mariisiiin.blogspot.com/2022/01/cyprus.html), so this time decided to just relax and enjoy the warm weather in Paphos for a couple of days.

Our dinner date for the first evening

We were staying in the Avlida hotel - a very decently priced hotel with great outside area, breakfast with various options, balconies offering sea-view, evening entertainment etc. It's close to the Tombs of the Kings archeological site, a lovely couple-kilometre beachside walk away from the harbor-center area.

Coral Bay - beautiful small beaches just 6 km north from the city.

All that fresh seafood, a key to my heart!

Cats cats cats! Thankfully Cypriots seem to care for them. It's bowls of water and cat food everywhere you look!

But why there are so many? According to one version, Roman Empress Saint Helena (Helena of Constantinople) shipped hundreds of cats from Egypt to Cyprus in AD 328 to chase out snakes from a monastery.

Gates to heaven ? Apparently it's one of the most luxurious hotel complexes in Paphos.

Bye Cyprus! Finally off to Jordan!

The bus we took to the airport resembled more a marshrutka from Albania. Old car, windows open, lively Balkan music blasting - fun!

Jordan vol 2: Wadi Rum, Aqaba, Al Karak, Dead Sea

From Petra we drove a couple hours towards the Wadi Rum desert, headed first to the Wadi Rum village to register ourselves, then left our car at the designated area at the beginning of the desert and met our host who drove us into the desert in his truck.

Pinkpop vol 2, Megaland, NL

Second time at Pinkpop festival (second year in a row, in fact) and still impressed! The weather was a bit more eventful this year, as last year was a complete heatwave. This year, we got heavy rain on the first day, perfect mild, sunny weather on the second day, and back to the heat on the third day.
