Christmas and more winter stories

"The first christmas you remember having as the greatest day of your life, family is all together, there are loads of presents, cookies, the magic is alive! And before you know it, you grow up, work and school and girlfriends/boyfriends take over and christmas becomes more of an obligation, in remind of what´s lost not what´s possible, and all the trees and presents, even the mistletoe can´t change that. And then when you grow older, you´re so desperate to get that magic back, you´ll do anything to be able to feel like you did that first christmas." (Glee)

Right before the holidays we had a reunion of our high school class. Went to our old school, or should I say new school. Last year they renovated it. Everything looks different. It's nice, some classes are really high-tech, it seems heaps more space there. For my taste it is too white, needs some decor, paintings, statues, DIY stuff.. the halls look empty and resemble a hospital.

We had a tour and then sat in our old classroom (which still looks the same :) ), ate, talked and watched some old videos of things we did together through times. It was great to see each other, but as we all agreed, next big reunion we should do again in 5 years or so to have some bigger changes and news to share, what should be the point of these reunions.

In mid-december there came the legendary snow-storm Monika. Loads of snow, even my window was wholly covered with snow, when  I super-cautiously opened it a meter of snow fell into my room and it was quite hard to close the window again.. killer wind and lots of chaos. Roads were in terrible condition. Not that it was even possible to go for a drive. I actually managed to dig my car out, but my mom's car was stuck in front of the house for days, as were many others. Our neighbours tried to get on a move for hours.. finally quit, I don't blame them, it's not really warm and cosy outside. Also there was a chair car and a police car stuck on the road behind our house. Do not come to Laagri when there's a snowstorm. Nor driving or on foot, as there were no sidewalks either, just loads of pure white snow! Another fun fact.. it took 18 minutes for a minibus to make a left-turn.. that's something.

Right before the madness, in the beginning of December we took a trip to Düsseldorf, Germany with some people from our dance school to witness a dance competition FUNKIN STYLEZ! One epic trip!

It was lovely autumn weather, we met awesome people, got to dance and take workshops and enjoyed Starbucks. Our hotel was nice, the city was beautiful and we had more fun that I could imagine! The workshops were fantastic! Karl Kane´s and Link´s hiphop and Jr. Boogaloo´s popping. Learned cool stuff and the routines were brilliant (I think I´m out of positive adjectives). And the event itself, Funkin Stylez 2010, is something I never forget! There were so many incredible dancers, I feel inspired and will start practicing right away. This kind of events are something you have to see with your own eyes to get the feeling.. then it´s no turning back. On the first day, when we at last got to bed, we had been up for about 40 hours, the pre-selections lasted till 4am! On the second day there were "Only The strong" 1vs1 quarter-finals until finals. The vogueing semi-finals went so out of hand, as Archie said, it was almost like it was back in the days. The finals ended at midnight but the party continued till early morning. On sunday there was the "World Team Battle", off the hook crew battles. The winners - "Bad News MP" from Germany.. no words needed! On sunday, before the team battle, there was a panel meeting with the judges where everybody had a possibility to ask questions. Got much useful and motivating information! The final afterparty - I think I can´t enjoy another party in Estonia to the fullest anymore if that one comes to mind.. and I´m sure I will not forget it! All the dancers jamming together, circles, great quality beats, doing some old-school moves together, everyone dancing, having fun, feeling united. At times the judges or some legends were performing somewhere (not performing performing, but even their most random jam session is a performance).

I have seen lots of these dancers through youtube and now seeing them in real life few inches away, doing even crazier stuff, it's quite overwhelming. I feel blessed!

In the end on November did some mountain-climbing with Ingrid and the company called ADRENALIIN.EE. Went to the cliff of Türisalu. It's about 30 meters high, the weather was chilly, windy but sunny. The first step is scary: to look down, get the ropes on and put heels a bit over the edge of the cliff and start going down, little by little, back facing the ground. The rope was in my hands, so I could control how fast I wanna go. When safely on the ground, walk about 200 meters on the coastline, as the weather was a bit stormy, it was fun, the rocks were slippery and the waves tried to get us wet, finally reached the place we were supposed to get up.. a new rope in the woods and lots and lots of mud. To get the whole package the up-going really had to be like that, a bit extreme as well. And then, do it all over again!

June 2023 Last time we were on a work-trip to Brussels, decided to take advantage of cheap Ryanair mid-Europe flights and flew to Ibiza for a long weekend. Had been wanting to check this party-hub out for some time. It's dreamy, gorgeous, vibrant, fun and quite expensive. So, in my opinion, a long weekend is exactly a right amount of time to be spent there!
