Tutunup diaries vol 7

We have been living in Capel for 4 weeks now. Just had another payday. And a very short day at work today, as the rain-storm hit us. A wall of rain, truly. Ten people wildly running out from between the bushes towards some shelter, must have been a fun sight.

" I'd sell my soul for a cheap night out" - don't worry, not that desperate yet, these are just lyrics to an awesome song by a Melbourne band  caleld 'Deep End'.

Tutunup diaries vol 5

Starting off with some very disappointing news, the grapes we are plucking the leaves from, do not go for wine supplies, just to supermarkets as table grapes..  I have been giving out wrong information. Tuesday afternoon we were told that we get back to the kiwi fields for a while, woooo, happydance! Back to the higher salary and more relaxing job. We started “training” kiwis. Helping them climb up on the wires we put up a couple of weeks ago. Our babies have grown quite some. Promised to not complain any more, so I don't and actually I don't even feel the need to for once, (only thing - 8.5 hours in the sun, at least the last hour, you still feel like your brain is fried.) although, today afternoon, me, Marion, Sarah and Sinead went back to the vineyard but the salary stayed the same and the work was actually fine, cutting off the disturbing vines. Me and Sinead kept got often carried away chatting about travels and other world wonders, so the time flew but our wo

Tutunup diaries vol 4: wonderful weekends

Visited our local pub friday evening. Cute but nothing too much going on, so we were back home around 10 and almost off to sleep at 11pm, when Clair and Bruce came back from a concert and we ended up chatting around the kitchen table, listening to her favorite band British India and drinking some Bundaberg until much later. Saturday morning after a breakfast at a local coffee-shop off to Bunbury. On our way from Perth to Capel (which seems like so long ago) the bus stopped in Bunbury for about half an hour and we totally wrote off that town. After hearing lots of good things about it, still decided to give it a try. Hitchhiking vol 2. A Capel local Kyle took us straight to the town centre, before showing us beautiful beaches and coastline. From there on we didn't see much of the town as we ran into Darren. A guy who did some beer tasting in a liquor store in Capel a week ago. He was meeting his college mates, as in Australia the summer is near and the semester just e

Tutunup diaries vol 2

Saturday was our well-earned day off. Woke up still relatively early. We needed to get our bank cards done, that was the main reason we headed to Busselton. Discovered banks are still closed on Saturdays. Which should've not become as a surprise as everything is opened as less as possible nearby hear. Basically, as we usually work 8am to 4.30 pm and it takes almost half an hour to and off work, everything is closed by the time we get home. Headed to the beach in Busselton and got our first official ocean-swim. Walked on Busselton jetty. An almost 2 km long wooden pier into the sea. The longest in the southers hemisphere. Aaandd celebrated our first successful work-week with a beer in a pub. Aussie beers are nice. Our current favorites include Little Creatures pale ale and Coopers celebration ale.  We usually hitchhike wherever we go.   It is legal in WA, tho we were not sure how common it is. Going to Busselton we had to wait around 10 minutes until an elderl

Capel: Tutunup diaries vol 1

Last sunday, took a 9 o'clock bus from East-Perth to a small town (one quite short main street and some surrounding ones) named Capel around 200 km to the south. We compare it to Bluebell from a series called “Hart of Dixie”. Not that it actually looks like that, but there are still quite some similarities if you let your imagination fly. We are yet to find a hot bartender!!! There is a pub and a countryclub nearby, so there is hope.

Perth vol 3: being cultural

Last two days we have been discovering Fremantle area and Northbridge in Perth city. Some aboriginal art galleries, some contemporary art and photography exhibitions. Found an awesome market place at Fremantle yesterday. Couldn't resist a cup of freshly made ice-cream. Literally the guy made it in front of our eyes.

Perth vol 2: beach life

WE HAVE A JOB!! So yesterday was time to celebrate!! Business first, tax numbers and bank accounts and whatever you need for working for Australia. God they're slow. We spent far more than a hour in the bank.
