Melbourne vol 7: more shenanigans

Managed to watch all Academy Awards best picture/actor/actress nominees before actual Oscars, especially thanks to Thai Airlines that had 2 of the films I hadn't seen on the menu ("Philomena" and "Captain Phillips") and 9 hour flights. Philomena was a sweet sad story about a woman's search for her long lost son. Based on true events, beautifully shot and keeps the interest up. Captain Phillips is another true story about a cargo ship hijacking by somali pirates. Great acting and an intense plot. The film I was looking forward the least was "Nebraska". I was pleasantly surprised tho. Black and white suited it well and made the moments and places stunning. Bittersweet movie about family relations, humorous and serious at the same time. And finally the best picture by my opinion and actually as well: "12 years a slave" Another true story with a great cast and so much power. The music, the silence in the right places and the editing made it even greater. Definitely a right choice for the award!

The Oscars itself were awesome! Any fan of Ellen DeGeneres was probably pleased. The selfie that crashed twitter, ordering pizza, some refreshing new faces and Ellens encounters with the stars. Had so much fun munching on our big brunch, wine and laughing out loud.. or almost crying going down memory lane or listening to a few beautiful speeches and songs.

Jared Leto: "Incredible. Ellen, I love you. To my fellow nominees, I’m so proud to share this journey with you. I’m in awe and have so much respect for you all. To the Academy, thank you.In 1971, in Bossier City Louisiana, there was a teenage girl who was pregnant with her second child. She was a high school dropout and a single mom, but somehow she managed to make a better life for herself and her children. She encouraged here kids to be creative and work hard and do something special. That girl was my mother and she’s here tonight. I just want to say ‘I love you mom, thank you for teaching me to dream. To my brother Shannon, the best big brother in the world: Thank you so much for sharing this insane adventure that is 30 Seconds to Mars and for being my best friend. To all the dreamers out there around the world watching this tonight in places like Ukraine and Venezuela, I want to to say we are here, and as you struggle to make your dreams happen and live the impossible, we are thinking of you tonight. This is for the 36 million people who have lost the battle to AIDS. And to those of you who have ever felt injustice because of who you are and who you love, I stand here in front of the world with you and for you. Thank you so much, and good night.”

Went back to work on Tuesday, march 4. Couldn't tolerate our incredible boss for more than an hour. We got into a huge argument, I ended it saying I was done with all that crap. Keiu decided to not go back as well. If anything about that is surprising, it is the fact that we lasted there for 2 months.

Everything happens for a reason I guess, immediately started looking for new jobs. Got 3 interviews for the next day. Two new jobs out of it. The whole long labour day weekend we worked at Moomba family festival at an amusement park, and helped kids with the games: collected money, answered to thousands of questions and handed out prizes. 9-12 hour shifts every day. In 3,5 days we fulfilled a proper full work week and got decently paid. Literally lost our voices after all the talking and yelling over music.. to continue in 3 days!

We will work this weekend at Formula 1 Grand Prix and sell radios. We wanted to witness the event anyways, getting paid for it sounds pretty great and sales jobs don't even make me wanna vomit anymore.

Despite being dead-tired last friday went for ONE drink with Jonathan and his friend Elin from Sweden who is crashing at our place, which lead to a night out on Chapel street. A night full of fun shenanigans as usual. Aussies love their random place-names. The places we mainly spent time this night were "Somewhere" and "Electric Ladyland".

Speaking of fun names: dinner at a Vietnamese place "Sex, drugs and ricepaper rolls"

Also been keeping up attendances to standup comedy. Altho loved the ones in Spleen, the place was far. "Lucky Coq" is on our street, just 2 minutes walking distance, plus they have a great food menu. The comedians were pretty entertaining as well. This tuesday discovered Brunswick and Fitzroy areas. Ended up at "The Rochy" for another weekly free comedy gig. Gotta say they had the largest amount of truly awkward comedians coming out of the closet. To the extent of one gentleman reciting first the sunday specials menu and then the bible. Good lord..

Melbourne Royal Botanic Gardens

Favorite new place has to be: "Naked for Satan" tapas bar and "Naked in the sky" on top of it. 1$ tapas every day for lunch. Most delicious snacks and a good view over North-Melbourne from the rooftop.

June 2023 Last time we were on a work-trip to Brussels, decided to take advantage of cheap Ryanair mid-Europe flights and flew to Ibiza for a long weekend. Had been wanting to check this party-hub out for some time. It's dreamy, gorgeous, vibrant, fun and quite expensive. So, in my opinion, a long weekend is exactly a right amount of time to be spent there!
