Columbia vol 1: Bogotá - Cartagena

It has definitely been a very memorable trip this far!

Views from our hostel in La Candelaria, Bogotá. The streets in and near the old town are so colourful and lovely.

Museo del Oro, the things to Cartagena make out of gold.

The picture doesn't do it justice, but it was one of the steepest streets I've walked on, also it was getting awfully close to the place a gringo should not go. Apparently there is a slum right next to the upper side of La Candelaria.

The first morning we were planning on doing a graffiti tour, while looking for the place it starts, we unknowingly walked into another little tour shop, the owner was an older guy who didn't exactly understand our graffiti wish, saying yea yea to whatever we asked, a tour is a tour anyway. We ended up being the only two on the tour. I was a city tour on bikes. Have to say we got the best tour possible as we ended up seeing places and doing stuff we wouldn't otherwise know about. Our guide was a local José, whose breaks weren't working properly, so a lot of time and effort went to trying to fix it, the boss joined us at some point an they felt we should do sth cool, aka play their national sport. It also happened to be the bosses birthday and that's how a 3 hour tour became a 10 hour tour.

The fruit tastes simply delicious!

Tejo! Pretty much throwing rocks to make gunpowder explode while drinking beer. Loser pays the bill. We were the only women in the all. Hell a lot o fun!

La Guerra del Amor concert with José and Keiu

Also got a short manual on how to make coffee after the beans are gathered from the plantations (a bike repairshop was connected to a coffeehouse)

On the next day finally managed to do a tips-based graffiti walking tour. Insane street-art here. I would recommend to check out Djlu, Toxicomano, Guache and Crisp and the messages behind their work.

Cerro de Monserrate - not too expensive by cable-cars and a great view of how massive Bogotá really is. It is out of central area a bit and we learned our lesson to not walk in deserted places after sunset, especially not take out money to buy food from the street on our second day. Somebody pulled a knife on us and tried to steal my bag, probably would have succeeded if not Keiu wrestling it back from him and a quick reaction from the police. I would say to keep your belongings very close and be especially careful after dark.

Sunday morning we flew to Cartagena for some heat and sun. An hour away by plane (20-sth by bus) and like on a different climate entirely.

Cartagena is a lovely Caribbean city but a little too touristic, everybody tries to sell to everybody, everything, everywhere!! That's why we escaped to the cinema on our first night there. "Amor y amistad" based on "Lady Susan" by Jane Austen was the pick. A cool movie but the cinema was so so freezing we couldn't wait to escape the too.

A lovely Argentinian bar for margaritas to get acquainted with Buenos Aires.

Thankfully dance is univesal. These street artists put on a good show.

We were craving for some island relaxation, so went to Playa Blanco to take a motorboat to Rosario island. Guess what, a tropical thunderstorm happened. The weather got so terrible we actually lost the island in the fog,  even the locals driving the boat looked worried. Luckily we found shelter in someone's home on one corner of the island to wait out the storm with 40 tourists. After a hour or so the weather cleared and it was safe to continue island-enjoying.

June 2023 Last time we were on a work-trip to Brussels, decided to take advantage of cheap Ryanair mid-Europe flights and flew to Ibiza for a long weekend. Had been wanting to check this party-hub out for some time. It's dreamy, gorgeous, vibrant, fun and quite expensive. So, in my opinion, a long weekend is exactly a right amount of time to be spent there!
