USA vol 2: NYC

What a great feeling to be back in New York City after quite some years.

Lower Manhattan at very early hours!

I took a nightbus from Montreal, Canada, and was supposed to reach NY around 7am, which would have been perfect. Instead, got woken up at 5 am, that we have reached 34th street and off you go! It was a bit tooo early to go wake up a friend I was staying with, so walked into Penn Station, grabbed a coffee and a bagel and around 6.30 headed up to Upper West Side and dropped my bags to a friends place. As it was a beautiful morning, took the subway straight back to Lower Manhattan to do some exploring.

One World Trade Center (Freedom Tower)

Trinity Church and St. Paul’s Chapel. Constructed in 1766, it is the oldest church in Manhattan. It became known as “The Little Chapel That Stood” after surviving the collapse of the Twin Towers on 9/11.

I have in the past done the actual ferry ride to see Lady Liberty and the Ellis island, and also taken the free ferry (free with metro pass) to explore Staten Island, so this time just passed by to say hi. I do recommend going to Staten Island tho, the views of the Statue of Liberty are pretty much as good as taking a paid tour.

Walked from Battery park through the Finacial district, Seaport and Pier 15 river esplanade towards the Brooklyn Bridge. Grabbed a few coffees on the way as I was quite sleep deprived and it was still way before noon.

It is always fun to walk across the bridge. Headed to Brooklyn, met up with some old friends in the neighborhood I used to live at and went to hang in Williamsburg.

Spent the next day on mid-town Manhattan, did some shopping, eating and people watching on Times Square.

In the evening went to see "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" on Broadway. Thank you Todaytix for the rush tickets and awesome seats! The show was super fun. I mean I am a Potterhead as well, so the magical atmosphere alone did it for me, and although the Cursed Child book is not my favorite, the show was very well done!

No visit to NYC is complete without without a stroll in Central Park. So before taking the train out of Manhattan for a beach day, walked around Strawberry Fields.

Coney Island, late September beach day! The only thing to ruin my mood were the lanternflies. Quite big bugs on the sand, that desperately try to come on people and their things.. and they can fly!

The Vessel in the Hudson’s Yard

21st of September is the United Nations International Day of Peace, so there were free concerts and informative events happening all over the city.

Discovering bars at Upper West Side. A lot of live music happening!

Carrie's house!

The Friends building at Greenwich Village

Chelsea Highline. It is always nice to walk at and end up at Chelsea Market. There was also a climate sciance fair happening with various artworks, installations and information booths. The Highline is a 2.33 km long trail built on a old railway track that has become a beautiful green oasis in the city.

An amazing Peruvian restaurant at Hell's Kitchen area.

The Met (Metropolitan Museum of Art)

My favorite areas to go out in NY has always been either Williamsburg, the Villages or Lower East side, so obviously had to visit some old favorites and discover new places.

An Ukrainian bar Sly Fox in the East Village.

Coyote Ugly is at a new location, but the vibe is still fun!

A little hidden gem at lower East Side, while we were searching for our old favorite beerpong bar and it started raining cats and dogs.

With that my North-American roadtrip was complete for this time! See you later!

June 2023 Last time we were on a work-trip to Brussels, decided to take advantage of cheap Ryanair mid-Europe flights and flew to Ibiza for a long weekend. Had been wanting to check this party-hub out for some time. It's dreamy, gorgeous, vibrant, fun and quite expensive. So, in my opinion, a long weekend is exactly a right amount of time to be spent there!
