Spain: Malaga - Caminito del Rey - Sevilla

January 2023.

So, as mentioned, I flew to Barcelona, spent some time with a good friend of mine, discovering more of Barcelona's food and wine scene and then my continued with a train ride towards Malaga. Also, had my last lecture of autumn semester on the train, and then charged my batteries for two weeks before the last semester of uni and all that thesis writing.

Went to a great Basque meat restaurant in Barcelona and the next evening balanced it out with veggie tapas.

The high-speed train too about hours to Malaga, 3 of which I had a lecture, so perfect timing.

Malaga, with its more than 300 days of sunshine a year, has Europe's warmest winters. Although at times a bit windy, it was warm enough in January to sunbathe on the beach and even swim. Malaga has a lovely old town, gothic cathedrals, Roman ruins, also, a lot of trendy bars, delicious tapas restaurants, food markets, beaches, rooftop bars, quick escapes to the nature and a fun vibe about the city.

This kind of a January I can live with!

Mercado Central de Atarazanas

The food!!! So many great tapas bars and tiny lively restaurants. As it was off season they were so reasonably priced it was hard to remember that eating aaaallll the time is not the wisest idea.

Went on a free walking tour, as haven't done them in a while and it's always a good idea to get some history, culture and great tips about the city.

Also, there is plenty for art lovers. The Picasso museum, the CAC (contemporary art centre), Pompidou centre etc.

And on Sunday afternoons, museums in Malaga are free of charge. Check opening times on each of them.

I stayed at The Lights Hostel, which has a lovely rooftop, occasional free sangria and an overall great social scene. We ended up having a fun crew for days and discovered a lot of Malaga together.

La Terraza de La Alcazaba rooftop bar.

The creative neighborhoods of Lagunillas and Soho

There are so many lovely tapas bars, just ask locals to recommend some.

Pedregalejo - one of the most traditional fishing neighbourhoods of Malaga.

It's approximately 5 km from Malaga and accessed by a city bus, yet feels a lot more like a village than a suburb of the big city.

Off to the mountains.

Caminito Del Rey: Spain’s Once Most Dangerous Path.

The old road is still visible in places, and it sure was scary. Nowadays it's more of a lovely scenic walk. The route is around 7km long and is made up of pathways through forest and woodland. Majority of the route is on a secure wooden platform, that is built on top of the old narrow road. The views are super worth it. It was very windy this day, so they almost had to close down just before we got to the bridge crossing, luckily they let us through and later on the weather cleared up as well.

Went to another rooftop bar on the last night in Malaga to get some views of the city.

Took a bus from Malaga towards Faro, Portugal. Had a half-day stopover in Sevilla. I have been there ages ago, so it was lovely to walk around again in the beautiful town.

Plaza de España - built in 1920s, it has 52 benches and tiled murals, each representing a province in Spain. There is a canal and small boats on it giving a vibe of Venice.

I wouldn't be a true GOT fan if I would not go and see this.

Royal Alcázar of Seville

Hopped back on the bus after a quick stroll in Sevilla and continued towards Faro, Portugal.

To be continued.

Jordan vol 2: Wadi Rum, Aqaba, Al Karak, Dead Sea

From Petra we drove a couple hours towards the Wadi Rum desert, headed first to the Wadi Rum village to register ourselves, then left our car at the designated area at the beginning of the desert and met our host who drove us into the desert in his truck.

Pinkpop vol 2, Megaland, NL

Second time at Pinkpop festival (second year in a row, in fact) and still impressed! The weather was a bit more eventful this year, as last year was a complete heatwave. This year, we got heavy rain on the first day, perfect mild, sunny weather on the second day, and back to the heat on the third day.
