Melbourne vol 9: closing chapter 2 ..

.. and being very very open to the new ones.

Of course it is sad to leave Melbourne, in 3 months this city became very very homey. And with its exuberant vibe, never ending festivals and festivities, art and music - it's never enough! Then again, it feels great to go into the unknowing again, hit the road, have no exact plans nor places to live nor exact means of transportation. I'm excited!!

Last saturday we went to visit another Estonian lady in Sunshine - a sweet, family-oriented suburb of Melbourne. She is the third Estonian who I have met in Estonia. One worked with us in Capel, another we ran into on one a-little-too-early morning on a tram in Melbs. Her, Keiu met randomly on the street as well. A month-or-so ago, when I was at work, she ran into 5 Estonians at once on Chapel st.

Was lovely to have loonngg discussions in Estonian language (discovered I have forgotten words again and some phrases are much easier to say in English) and eat pancakes with sour cream, cheese and bacon.. and fresh berry-jams and maple syrup, and celebrate Katrin getting a permanent visa with champagne!

[Actually, I was lying before, we met two more Estonians on the beach on our last say in Melbourne. Two boys drinking beer and being almost unable to communicate already at 4pm. Lets say the conversation was purposeless and very brief.]

The same tuesday we visited a rock concerts photography exhibition opening night at Ding Dong Lounge and a pre-opening night of the Melbourne Comedy Festival at Imperial Hotel. Some very interesting stuff and Stuart Daulman is pure genius, I was crying!!!

To save money we moved out of our precious apartment on thursday. Bye-bye Artist lane and our great house-mates!! Luckily didn't have to go too far. Julio (Keiu's friend from Brazil) took us in and he lived a couple streets away. We enjoyed his place to the fullest. Yes, there is a gym and an outdoor pool with a view, on the roof (18th floor).

GLÖGG !!! from IKEA !!!

Friday night headed to Prince Bandroom to see "Cloud Control" (My third most-favorite musical discovery in Australia!!!). The gig was free, what we did not know, was that we needed to rsvp, we didn't, and they sold out. Was still early, went for a drink in Espy, caught another cool band "I know the Chief" and tried again.. aand, drum roll please - got in!!! To the sold-out gig "Cloud Control". Didn't get enough of them and going to see them again in Sydney!!! Continued the night bar-hopping in St. Kilda and finished it with pool tournaments at Espy and an invitation to the posh club.

Our newfound friends were rugby players, they had a game next morning, but also tickets to an Australian football game at the same time. They decided to give the football tickets to us. First half an hour went to understanding which team is St. Kilda, who we should support, a bit more for the game to make any sense (it is way too confusing, and I do know main rules of american football, which should help!) Then again, in the end we were the most passionate and dedicated football-fans ever and were screaming with the crowds. And St. Kilda won with a most awesome comeback from being more than 20 points behind after the 3rd quarter/half thingy.

Met our ex-house-mates Yvonne and Agathe in the evening at "Berlin Bar", managed to go to a wrong bar at first (one floor too low) and it took us at least an hour to get the error.

Last workouts at Brophy's gym (another thing I'm gonna miss about Melbs, the workouts and the little community there, fun classes and very warm people); last evenings at ESPY - our second home in Melbs [more pool, more bands, more epicly random late-night walks home(involving teaching some irish lads to do proper squats in the middle of the street. One of the two irish flew from Dublin to Melbourne for 11 hours just to visit his cousin, that's friendship!!)]; catching up with old friends; a couple of delicious meals and walks on the beach; and off to Sydney we go.. 6am in the morning with a couple of german dudes by car-share via Gumtree again.

with Elin from Sweden at Espy!

June 2023 Last time we were on a work-trip to Brussels, decided to take advantage of cheap Ryanair mid-Europe flights and flew to Ibiza for a long weekend. Had been wanting to check this party-hub out for some time. It's dreamy, gorgeous, vibrant, fun and quite expensive. So, in my opinion, a long weekend is exactly a right amount of time to be spent there!
