Tutunup diareis vol 6

" I'd sell my soul for a cheap night out" - don't worry, not that desperate yet, these are just lyrics to an awesome song by a Melbourne band  caleld 'Deep End'.

Friday was our first day off, morning was a bit thunderstormy, which gave us a lazy-pancakey-morning home. Hitchhiked to Bunbury in the afternoon. A lady who had to pick up her kid from school first ended up taking us. She was very open. We learned that she: loves to drive fast (130-140 km/h), is a real-estate agent, just sold a house, also visited a furniture-auction (hopefully gets a kitchen table and a bed to her daughter), her kid is lovely but a bit needy and is just getting a newest iPhone (she's six, or seven the least). Also she has a secret lover. I thought it was a joke, apparently it's not. Anyways, she was super positive and in Bunbury we were.

All our friends were busy so we ended up on a beach with a six-pack of beer. The beach was filled with very sporty people. Guys having a army-drill-kinda workout, couple of people running on the beach, in and out of the water like lunatics, bunch of school-kids swimming naked, while covered with green paint and wearing creepy costumes (Halloween was a month ago dearies). Apparently it's something they do with the "schoolies week" aka leavers week. A tradition in WA for the junior and senior high-school graduates.

These miraculous sunsets. All taken during the same evening at the same place, if you believe me.

Headed to "The Prince of Wales" hotel/pub in the evening. Two bands were playing. Firstly "Hail Mary" and then "Deep End". Both local Aussie rock'ish-bands. Clair knew the manager so we ended up hanging out with the band later. Awesomely awesome characters. Got a couple of Bundys with a takeaway price and later at home, of course no-one wanted to go to sleep. Which we hoped they would, as me and Keiu wanted to bake a cake for Clair. (It was her birthday on sunday.) Finally we started with that at 2am.

Our cake ready to go into the oven

Saturday morning headed to Margaret River to a Gourmet Escape. O M G. 38 $ to get in, but oh-so-many delicious things to try. Cheeses, chocolates, chutneys, sauces, snacks and of course wine wine wine. We tasted around 50 different wines by the end of the afternoon. One better than the other. Also tried some emu-chorizo and smokey kangaroo for the first time. Next to tastings there were top chefs (e.g Heston Blumenthal!) giving tips and different cooking shows held on the stages.

On our way back stopped at the beach, literally ran and fell (when the bottom suddenly just disappeared) into the ocean after a hot-hot-hot day and continued our own wine tasting in the car (driver excluded).

HAPPY CHRISTMAS! It's the season, I guess..

kangaroo :(

Arrived home for Clair's birthday party. Jelly-shots, pool, barbie, loud music, random talks and too much wine. (God I suck at pool, year and a half is apparently enough to forget all your skills). Still I was confident enough to held some tournaments against some Bruce's skydiving buddies, which I lost, thankfully not too miserably. One of the guys had jumped ca 3500 times! Ended the night with Pacman and Galactica games on the old-school game console.

With the birthday girl! :)

Sang a birthday song and gave Clair a cake on sunday morning. We didn't know which cheeses to use inside the cake and all, but the trial and error method proved to work again.

Cleaned up the shed and  played some more pool to not suck the next time in public and headed to a cider-factory with Bruce, Clair, her daughter and daughter's boyfriend. Tasted some Australian cider and headed to a nearby lake. The lake is definitely one of the local hidden gems you would never randomly stumble on. From somewhere turn into the forest, drive on some small road for a time, and then, turn onto a road that doesn't resemble a road much anymore. We made a wrong turn somewhere and had an epic awesome off-road experience. Thankfully Bruce's truck handled the situation. There pretty much was no road, trees or stumps everywhere, mixed with some fallen trees onto the "road". No phone reception and in the end a precious, blissful place!

Ended the night with Keiu, Josh and Darren on the Peppermint Grove Beach (Pepi) and discovering Capel. PS! While driving to the beach at twilight, we saw kangaroos, FINALLYYY!!!!

And today, after this uh-mazing weekend just another long day at work, and I still feel so blessed and happy.

Caley and Marrie (apparently we have new names) are out.

Ibiza, Spain

June 2023 Last time we were on a work-trip to Brussels, decided to take advantage of cheap Ryanair mid-Europe flights and flew to Ibiza for a long weekend. Had been wanting to check this party-hub out for some time. It's dreamy, gorgeous, vibrant, fun and quite expensive. So, in my opinion, a long weekend is exactly a right amount of time to be spent there!
