Across the Nullabor to Adelaide!

After actually crossing the Nullarbor I will admit that hitchhiking would have not been the brightest idea.

Luckily in the end we did listen to people who forbade us to hitch, and decided to go for the car share. Crossed it with two germans Max and Björn.

Nullarbor (aboriginal word for no trees) plain is a deserted, almost treeless area about 1100 km long. In total our journey from Esperance to Adelaide was about 2200k long. I was excited in the start for some unknown reason, the excitement lasted for about 20 minutes. We missed the rest area/campsite on the first night and had to stop on a random smaller rest stop in the middle of nowhere. Only thing near us was a trash bin. And we were still tenting, without a proper mattress, while the ground was as aggressive as possible and the wind freezing cold. Cooked some rice and chicken with the boys. Portable gas cooker is an awesome invention, even with our wind 70m/s (I am exaggerating a bit), it worked. Were awoken at night by some animal voices nearby, bathroom was not an option in the dark! Survived and had an early start. Crossed the border from west to south on the second day. South is cheaper!! Were stopped by the police at some point. Other than that the journey was pretty eventless. Me and Keiu were naming our pillows, documenting time passing and being just silly. Second evening we reached a camp site that reminded it a bit more. Even had toilets! Pasta and pesto, and goon. It was wine-a-clock. On the third day reached Port Augusta. Civilization, kind of! Were desperately searching for a beach. The nature was against us. At some point discovered Björn driving on the wrong side. ("Bjööörrnn we drive on the lefttt!!!!!) Who knows how many times he did that before.. And "in the blink of an eye" we were in Adelaide.

Couchsurfing! We ended up with probably the craziest bunch of people you could find out there. In the best possible sense of the word. Three chillax Aussie guys Christian, Scotty and Attila and another couchsurfer Francoise from France. Two of the aussies were currently between jobs, so it was beer-o-clock 24/7. They warned us about that even in their invite. The frenchie had surfed there for 2 weeks, is an ultimate bohemian from a village of 15 people, sings old french songs, plays accordion and reminds you an old french movie in every possible way.

With an exception of half a day being cultural and visiting some art galleries in town we basically have been partying since we got here on the afternoon of 29th. Went skateboarding on the coastline and for a great swim. The water is less saltier and warmer here than it was in west-australia. Desperately tried to get the kiddy-pool going in the back yard as well, but that was a mission impossible, half full is still better than nothing. The past couple of days have been very hot.

Placing drink orders

And the new years eve! Out of nowhere the night was abnormally warm. We almost missed the fireworks. Couldn't get the taxi to town (we live about 5k-s away). Finally caught the bus. 15 minutes to "ball drop". Jumped out somewhere. Christian forgot his shoes to the bus, ran after it, caught it at the traffic lights and claimed his stuff. We were in the most random small roads looking for an address, when the fireworks started. It was all so random, it was totally awesome! 5 minutes after midnight got to the place we were looking for. A CS costume-party at a pretty great house for parties, all decorated and with basically three different dance areas. As we missed the actual countdown we had a new one 10 minutes too late. The house was packed with travelers and locals and we danced and danced until morning.

Taxis are overrated, so why not walk home. First, a shortcut through the cemetery. What an awesome idea. With somebody occasionally getting lost, or walking the wrong way, or having to chat with the cops, we made it home around 8am. An hour of napping and off we go again.

Ibiza, Spain

June 2023 Last time we were on a work-trip to Brussels, decided to take advantage of cheap Ryanair mid-Europe flights and flew to Ibiza for a long weekend. Had been wanting to check this party-hub out for some time. It's dreamy, gorgeous, vibrant, fun and quite expensive. So, in my opinion, a long weekend is exactly a right amount of time to be spent there!
