Melbourne vol 1

First impressions

Our first week in Melbs has been pretty colourful. At first, couchsurfed with Andres and his roommates We started looking for our own apartment from there. Being way too confident like we are, we finally found a nice place, talked to the owner on the phone and finally went to see the flat already being sure we are gonna take it, on the evening we had to move out from Andres's. Of course we didn't have a plan B of where to stay when something doesn't go as planned. And it didn't. The owner of the apartment and our  new would-have-been roommate was a "tiny bit" creepy and unwelcoming. His presence and all the rules would suit the military. For example, if he finds a stove unclean or an unwashed dish somewhere, he would clean it immediately and charges 30 dollars per person.

So, we did not have our own apartment nor another couchsurfing spot. It was 10pm. Posted an emergency request on CS and a young Iranian engineer Ally saved us, even came to pick us up with all our 100 bags. He happens to live in South Yarra on the 30th floor rooftop apartment. With a view all over the city, owns a shisha and can make wonderful cocktails as he used to be a bartender. Sipping margaritas there, life was a breeze again. From zero to hero, eh?

We cooked dinner the next day, healthy-ish burgers!

On friday, we signed a lease to our new apartment. On Chapel street, one of the party-never-stops streets. Busy and noisy. Entrance to our place is from the courtyard, from a cosy veranda, so we can have peace and quiet there when we need it. It overlooks a bunch of murals. Graffiti very well done! Lots of people come to see these paintings every day. It's a big apartment, looks chill and homy and has everything you need. We share it with a british guy and two more people should be moving in soon.

Meanwhile, we got our RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) and are now legally ready to work at a bar; have applied to tens and tens of places, sent CV-s or handed them out personally to bars and cafes in different areas. It has been just a couple of days of job hunting, impatient as we are, it feels like an eternity.

most definitely the coolest classroom I've stepped into.

In Carlton's "Little Italy" district, an italian boss gave us a name and address of another restaurant, saying if we go there and ask for George we are guaranteed a position in his restaurant. We did so and George started laughing that his friend had misunderstood, he needed a girlfriend not a waitress.

Got an interview at a nice fish&chips restaurant. The interview was yesterday at 9am, thought it went well but as there were 20 ladies all expecting that job and it was the shortest interview I have ever attended, I do not have the highest hopes. The interview was held on a bench on the street in front of the restaurant, that was a first as well.

Went to check out Melbourne's nightlife for the first time yesterday with another bartender friend Alex and had a chillax day out of town at Frankston beach with Ally and his friend today. Visited the Crown Entertainment Casino. Boys played roulette and we gambled a little on slot machines trying to collect rent money ;D. Ended the night with a drive through posh areas of Melbourne and a beautiful seafood salad.

Wish us luck on the job-market!

June 2023 Last time we were on a work-trip to Brussels, decided to take advantage of cheap Ryanair mid-Europe flights and flew to Ibiza for a long weekend. Had been wanting to check this party-hub out for some time. It's dreamy, gorgeous, vibrant, fun and quite expensive. So, in my opinion, a long weekend is exactly a right amount of time to be spent there!
